Your backflow unit works to ensure there is enough pressure on the main water intake breaker to ensure no water backflow into the water supply. The backflow preventer holds the water from running a reverse flow or backflow which pushes dirty used water back up and out into the main water supply.

Backflow is caused by cross-connections that have the potential of allowing contaminants into the drinking water system. Back siphonage can occur when the pressure in a tank or water trough is lower than the water system’s pressure. Another cause of backflow is backpressure.
